Do I have to tell providers that I am an NDIS participant?

No, you don’t.

If you are worried about a provider charging a higher rate because you will be using NDIS funds, or simply don’t want to share your personal circumstances, you certainly don’t have to tell the provider that you are an NDIS participant.

If you are plan-managed (or self-managed), your providers don’t have to be NDIS registered. So, if you have psychology included in your plan for example, you can choose any psychologist, obtain an invoice after your session and email it to your plan manager for payment.

If you have Assistance with Daily Life included in your plan and are eligible to have cleaning support, the same applies.

An important note to consider however, is that if you are plan-managed, your providers cannot invoice for more than the hourly price limit set by the NDIS. You can check the current price limits by visiting the NDIS Price Guide.

What if I want to use a provider that charges a higher hourly rate than the NDIS price limit?

This situation will make keeping the fact that you’re an NDIS participant confidential a little tricky. You will need to ask your provider to create an invoice with the hourly rate at the price limit set by the NDIS. You can then pay the additional amount to them directly with your own money.
